A fantastic idea by Tunde Dugantsi, making a composite cookie platter by assembling simple shapes. You will use cookie cutters such as squares, circles, triangles, and build your way around the puzzle. Because I have a very hard time with spatial organization and symmetry in general, this project was not easy for me. But I imagine most decorators would classify it as intermediate. A lot of fine piping is required, so keep that in mind.

Remember that you can join Tunde’s club (click here) and/or also recommend it for friends who might be interested in embracing a new hobby. This adventure starts by drawing the shapes on parchment so that you can choose the cookie cutters to make the final composition. That was truly the hardest part for me, and I struggled quite a bit. At any rate, once you define the cutters to use, It is best to choose a cookie dough that does not spread, so I went with my default Hazelnut Cookie Dough for stamps (recipe available here). This is a nice option for those who prefer less icing on their cookies, by the way. Once all details were piped, I air-bushed the cookies with a Pearl sheen by Americolor, but that step is optional.

I had a few boo-boos when I cut the cookies, you can see some lines in the naked ones, but once they were all decorated that was not a deal breaker, I don’t think. Just something to keep in mind for next time. The fun part is piping all the details, a labor of love and Royal icing…

.

And here is a little video of the platter coming to life.

Really loved making this set, and now that I have the template ready, I can conceivably make other designs with these basic shapes in mind.
A real masterpiece by Tunde

Unreal to my non-cookie-decorating mind, but > if it is not a total secret, once you have all the cookies for the whole set ready . . . about how long timewise would the decorating to the finish point take . . . or is that a trade secret 🙂 ?

Well, here is the thing – I am a compulsive time-maniac, I pay attention to how long things take, all the time . I am also very impatient by nature. The interesting thing is that cookie decorating is the area I force myself to exercising patience AND I refuse to pay attention to time. It is my little opportunity to adjusting my nature and slowing down – so I “think” it took me one hour to decorate them all, maybe a little more. But that part was really not a big deal, it is all very Zen. I had a much harder time cutting the cookie shapes and making them fit –

Thanks and I hope you did not mind my asking. I cannot see myself doing it in that time, but then I cannot anyways 🙂 ! I am very zen stirring risottos, so . . .
