A TRIBUTE TO THE SUN

Summer, my favorite season! Today I share a few cookie designs to celebrate the sun in all its shiny glory.

Both designs start by flooding the cookie with white and allowing it to set for several hours or overnight. Then, a food pen is used to make little black dots i one of them. After that, the yellow sun and the area around it is defined with piping consistency icing.

And then all that is left: flooding, allowing to fully set and add the eyes
with a food safe pen…

The second design gets a sun area flooded, and food pens are then used to make the colorful rainbow rays all around it. A little white icing in piping consistency makes the rays pop up more. Finally, eyes and a bit of blush. You are done!

MOVING ON…. a super simple idea, just two colors, easy peasy! You do need to pipe fine lines for the rays, but you could conceivably do that with a pen, for a slightly less dramatic look. I used Sky Blue and Electric Yellow.

And more ways to focus on the King Sun…

Both require piping of fine lines, but they do add a lot to be final cookie. The one with orange and yellow rays piped all around also got sprayed with Cake Craft Color Spray gold, which is often available at our grocery store in town.

I close this post with a little composition, which is in fact a single cookie with a small one at the center.

Probably the most involved cookie in this series, as it had to be made in stages, first the areas that got air-brushed with a stencil were flooded first, allowed to fully dry. Then the other areas were piped and the small cookie glued on top.
