Seven years ago she left us, but she is way too special to be forgotten. No, not happening. I like to imagine she would love this series of cookies. They all share in common the turquoise color, but I tried to bring different styles, some elegant, some playful, just like Aritri.

I’ve been dreaming of making a set of turquoise jewelry cookies for a long time, but was afraid to try it, not knowing exactly how to materialize it. I took a deep breath and gave it a shot. So happy with them! I used a Wilton silver shimmering spray to get the metal component into the cookies, and the overall turquoise look was wet on wet. Below you see some of the steps.

To get this tone of blue I started from Americolor Turquoise and added to it a tiny amount of black. That toned down the color just right. To marble the colors I used either Royal icing in black or white over the flooded turquoise color, or dabs of silver luster powder mixed with vodka. You need to work fast if you go that route, the alcohol interferes with the consistency of the icing and you can get a wavy surface if you allow it to sit for too long before marbling it with a needle.

I think these are my favorites of this particular set…

A little stamped cookie with a similar color pattern seemed appropriate to join this party…

TURQUOISE PAISLEY

A simple drop shape was flooded, base allowed to set, and then a decorative layer was added using a stencil and slightly lighter Royal icing, plus dusting with gold luster powder from a pump.

PLAYFUL TURQUOISE

These reminded me of bandanas, and I bet Aritri would smile at the pattern added to cookies. You might be surprised to learn these were the most time consuming and labor-intensive cookies of this series. I started by making a little template to scratch the design on the flooded cookie, then added each component of the pattern with white or dark grey icing in piping consistency. You can see the steps below.

I am happy with the outcome but let me tell you, I was a bit tired when I was done with them!

Sometimes it is almost impossible to cope with the unfairness of life.
Not much else to say. Carpe diem.
