For the Love of Cookies

Technically, it is still Summer, even though the temperatures each week drop a little bit, and yes, there are signs that Fall will be upon us soon. I have a hard time saying goodbye to my favorite season, so today I bring four cookie designs that scream Summer while I still can… 

AMBER’S BEACH SCENE

This is an amazing design by Amber, available to those who are part of her cookie club (to join, click here). A lot of details: the glass rocks are in fact small pieces of cookies iced and painted. The sand is cookie crumbs plus golden sanding sugar, with the addition of small pieces of white royal icing to mimic shell pieces. Can you imagine?

I love the method she used to make the wood planks, very cool. I will be incorporating that in future designs for sure.

Moving on… I had extra cookie sand leftover, so I made some simple round cookies to use it up.

The steps are pretty straightforward, and you can see each one below…

Start with the sand area, flood and add the crumbs. Place the fondant decoration immediately on top. Flood the blue area, marble with lighter blue or white. Once it is set, add waves with brush embroidery technique.

THE ANCHOR

Once again, Amber brings a touch of elegance with a simple but classy design. The process is clever, some steps shown below. A steady hand for piping does help (wink, wink).

I find the red anchor piped off-center quite charming…

I close this series with a simple, modern-ish sun vibe…

A MODERN SUN

The base was marbled in turquoise and white, next day when it was absolutely set, a stencil was used to apply the image with thick Royal icing dyed gold. Once the stencil was lifted and the design dry, I painted with luster powder gold.

So there you have it, my little cookie goodbye to Summer, although if you know me, you should not be too surprised if I come up with more before the leaves start falling from our beautiful Kansas trees…
