As promised in the last post, today I share additional butterfly designs made after getting inspired by Tunde’s class. I will start by sharing my very favorite of this series.

I flooded all cookies with white icing, and air-brushed after the surface was dry. For the blue series, I used purple and blue colors, blue in the center and purple on the edges. A few minutes to let the paint dry, and the details were added with piping consistency white icing. Here is the whole blue group:

Another set focused on bright yellow and orange, and I am quite happy with the way they turned out.

I air-brushed with yellow on the central region and orange on the edges. Once that dried, I piped details with Royal icing, and later painted the lines with luster powder gold + vodka.

Since I was in a pretty serious butterfly mood, I made two designs from the past, shared by Marlyn from the former Montreal Confections (Canada). The first is what she calls “Jeweled Butterflies”. I’ve made them in the past, but changed the colors this time. I also think I got a little better at piping the fine lines, so I am happier with this set overall.

I close this small collection with another design from Marlyn, which you can find available to watch in youtube (click here).

It is a bit involved in terms of piping lines, but if you take your time, it’s not that hard.

I actually made this large butterfly design twice, but lost all the pictures of the second time around. Such is life. At least I had a few to share from my first attempt.

I may or may not be done with the butterfly concept in the cookie universe…

I am just looking, somewhat awestruck as usual, and quietly wondering how much time the execution of each takes >first the ‘thinking-it-out and then the collection of all the materials and then the plain doing’ !!! Methinks I would just like to collect a whole lot of these photos and frame them very simply and arrange them in the wall in a kitchen or sunroom or . . . oh, keep the centre-bottom grey-blue for me please 🙂 !

Just wanted to tell you that I so love your comments, they energize me and brighten my day…… I would bake you a dozen of butterfly cookies every week if we lived closer…. No, you would not have to eat them, you can give them all away to friends, if you like!
