Of course, you can get by with cookie decorating if you buy just the basic colors and mix them to get any other color you need. But I confess to being a compulsive food dye hoarder. And one of the colors I love the most, right off the bottle is Dusty Rose. Several companies make it, Americolor and SugarArt are my favorites. The problem with pink, is that often you get into bubblegum territory, instead of a beautiful, elegant color. Dusty Rose to the rescue. Think of pink tamed with a touch of brown. You can go all the way to burgundy using it, and bring it to a pastel shade that will win your heart. Today I share cookies that were all decorated using Dusty Rose in different strengths. I hope you will fall in love with it.

Three shades of Dusty Rose, very light, medium and dark. Just a wet-on-wet technique to make the central rose, details with green and a bead border with medium pink. The same overall method works well in other cookie shapes, as you can see below.

And I love it coupled with a wavy border….

Moving on, a slightly more modern approach for a cookie shape that can be used in countless ways…

I got my inspiration from things I saw on Pinterest, and improvised my way. Made a basic sketch, and filled the different sections, then added details with piping consistency, everything with Dusty Rose, except of course the greenery.

Hearts, made in a more classic, romantic way…. Coupled with Rose Gold sanding sugar.

One last thing to share, luster powder brushed over a totally dry iced cookie, can take a single color into completely different looks. Three examples below.

I hope I convinced you to bring a bottle of Dusty Rose to play with. I use it all the time, and never get tired of it…

ONE YEAR AGO: Happy Cinco de Mayo!

TWO YEARS AGO: I’ve got the blues

THREE YEARS AGO: The Many Faces of a Cookie

FOUR YEARS AGO:Amy’s Fabulous Floral Class

FIVE YEARS AGO: Sugarveil Blues

Very impressed with how you use one color to elicit so many different moods! You’re truly an artist!
