Two sisters turning 5 and 3 just a few days apart. Virtue, the oldest, loves all things planet and space. Vaeda, the youngest, is fascinated by princesses. That was all I needed to know to bake a set of cookies for their special day. I was lucky enough to get together with them last month, so I could ask what was Virtue’s favorite planet. I was betting on Saturn (as a kid, those rings conquered my heart). But she did not blink: Mars! How cool is that? I simply had to cookie-it.

My favorite cookie of this set is the one depicting the Leo constellation, chosen because it is their Zodiac sign. No way around it, this design demands quite a few colors to be effective. Once they are piped in concentric circles, the needle does the work to marble the colors.

After the base is set, the constellation is piped.

A similar galaxy piping was used as the base for a Happy Birthday cookie… I used pastel colors, aiming to tie the space cookies with a princess vibe.

That base needed to fully dry overnight, so I could use a stencil and add the message using Royal icing and a little diamond dust. Because any Princess needs bling!

The Princess dress cookies were kept with the same pink color, but each had a slightly different design.

As to Planet Mars, it was the simplest but maybe the trickiest. Mars is such a beautiful planet, but conveying this beauty in cookie shape? Not very easy. Let’s hope Virtue was ok with my rendition of it.

Finally, the Princess Carriage. This is a wonderful design by Haniela. I made it in the past but was thrilled to have a reason to re-visit. You can read all about it clicking here for a flashback.

Happy Birthday to two adorable little girls!
