A friend of mine asked me to make some cookies for a special event: a baby shower with the theme “Over the Moon”. Making cookies for special occasions makes me a bit nervous, but I do enjoy planning and then trying to turn the plan into real cookies. I went with six different designs, and here they are. Keep reading for additional details…

All cookies were lemon-flavored, using a recipe that calls for lemon zest, lemon extract and a touch of vanilla. I decided on the shapes and started planning.

As you may have noticed, I did change gears for the little bears. I did not like the size of the bow, and thought a simple, small star would fit better the overall theme.

My favorite (maybe), was the big cloud with the hanging moon and stars. I cut the shape by hand, as I did not have a cookie cutter to fit the design I had in mind. Below some of the steps to make it. The moon was a Royal icing transfer, and the stars made with fondant and a silicone mold.

I also really liked the rattle because it brought a different color scheme, a bit more assertive with all the gold. I added a little texture to the handle by using a fondant baller tool to make dimples. The big moon and the bow were made with fondant and molds.
