We are just back from almost two weeks in Hawaii, first Big Island and then Kauai, a place I completely fell in love with… When we arrived home, I could not wait to bake some cookies inspired by our vacations…

Maybe my favorite design of this series…

I cut the shape by hand, starting from a swimming suit cookie cutter. Then I painted very thin light green icing as the background for the skirt. Piped the bra region, then the body. Once all that set, I added the details with piping consistency. The secret for the skirt is to add one layer at the time of the thin lines, so they stay well defined. Don’t forget the belly button in the end!

The hibiscus is pretty straightforward, background iced with white, allowed to set. Petals piped with red, and details with Americolor Gold, later painted with luster powder + vodka for extra bling.

HAWAIIAN TIKI MASKS

For these, I relied on a stencil I’ve had for quite a while. I used the air-brush to add the design on a cookie iced with off-white. Then I used a food safe pen to paint it. Sorry, I don’t remember where I got the stencil, but there are plenty available on etsy.com
HAWAIIAN SHIRTS

No limit to the color combinations possible with this wet-on-wet pattern. The only thing to keep in mind is making each section individually, so that they retain some separation. The flowers are a circle of yellow with a central orange dot, pulled gently from outside to center with a needle. Clean the needle after each pull. Once it all sets, add the details with plain purple icing.

The shirts go very well together with some surf boards, also made with a simple wet-on-wet method.

THE BEACH ON A STICK

The stick can be adapted to so many designs, in this case just the idea of the sea and the sand (made gold with luster powder painted straight on the naked cookie), plus a little fondant decoration.
