Recently Haniela did a live decorating demo using Mason jars, and mentioned that a few years ago she had coupled that shape with fireflies, which is simply brilliant, right? Her design was quite a bit more involved than the ones I made but I am super happy with this set. You can see her version clicking here. Can you believe she made those 9 years ago? Time flies, fireflies…. (sorry, that was bad).

It calls for just a few colors of icing… Two shades of blue, bright yellow, and for the lid your basic gray in two consistencies, flood and piping fine lines.

Flood the jar area with darker blue, add the lighter blue for details, and immediately decide where the fireflies will be. Those spots will be marked with a little oval yellow icing, that you will then pull to make a reflection using the needle. Pull just the lower half of the oval, as shown below. Add a few little yellow dots all around.

Let that set for 1 hour or so, them pipe the body of the firefly with the same yellow, in slightly thicker consistency. Add the lid and details once the background sets.

At this point, it is best to let the cookie set for several hours, because the final details will be made using a fine tip black pen.

Your fireflies are ready to brighten up your evening… but make sure to release them at some point, they are too beautiful to be locked inside a jar.
