Leave it to Haniela to make super realistic concrete texture on cookies… Such a cool method, that you can learn reading her blog post that also includes a video (click here). Once you have that background, you can do so many different designs over it, I share a few ideas today.

The technique is not complicated, just a few tones of gray icing, a little parchment paper to lay over the marbled, still wet icing, and then I like to use a Microplane to make the edges perfectly straight, as the icing always flows out the sides a bit. Some steps shown below.

Once the background is fully set, you can add Royal icing transfers to make a succulent garden…

Or use a stencil with Royal icing to add images…

Adding a bit of gold on the edges is optional. But I like that look quite a bit… I hope you consider adding this technique to your repertoire of cookie decorating methods. You can do the background in slightly different tones, to mimim marble or other types of stones. I will definitely re-visit this issue in the future, so stay tuned!

Sally – I am aware you give most of your creations away to those who have not, in our oft difficult and sad world, BUT . . . methinks most of the recipients will dry them and frame them . . . they are simply too beautiful to eat 🙂 ! Well, the grey ones are very elegant and ‘arty’, but I actually love to go and enjoy the non-prickly succulents . . . each one a little piece of sculpture 🙂 !!!

Well, I sure hope they got to be enjoyed, and yes…. destroyed in the process….. as Buddha would say…. “embrace impermanence” and the beauty of cookies is like life…. fleeting, to be enjoyed and let go…..
