I don’t have a good defense for the over-use of the cookie flip trick. Since my sins are already beyond redemption, here I share not one, not two, but three flips that start with one of the most flexible shapes: the tulip cutter!

All designs are pretty simple, the Owl was inspired by a cookie conceived by Amber a while ago. I just tweaked a few things…

Basic steps:
Draw the different areas
Flood center with blue and immediately add yellow dots (wet-on-wet)
Add eyes (I used store-bought candy)
Flood the pink area
Let it all set.
Do brush embroidery for the wing area
Pipe the orange nose
Add eyelashes with food safe pen

.

Basic steps:
Draw the different areas
Flood the top with white, leaving a space for the black area
Fill the black area with icing
Flood the bottom with pink; add PME black pearls for the nose
Pipe the ears with pink
Let it all set
Pipe the eyes (green or any color you wish)
Add PME pearls in the center right away
Pipe the mouth; add a candy heart
Draw the eyelashes with food safe pen
Add a flower to the head (royal icing transfer or fondant) – this step is optional

.

Basic steps:
Draw the different areas
Flood bottom and ears with gray icing; add PME pearls for eyes
Flood the head with white.
Let it all set.
Pipe the nose with white icing.
Pine the mouth.
Do swirls on the head with very light pink.
Draw the eyebrows.
Add luster powder pink on the cheeks.

I hope you enjoyed this trio of flips!

Very cute. When I look closely, and read your instructions, I’m amazed at how steady your hands must be. I doubt I could ever do this. I did try a few times and my flood was too thick, or too thin, dried lumpy or otherwise got ruined by a clumsy tip of my hand. I’m in awe of your talent, which I’ve seen grow from a complete beginner, to a master cookier. Well done, Sally.
