I am incredibly excited to share this! I have been preparing for it since December, finally last month I wrapped up the cookie decorating marathon and sent 50 cookies, in five different designs to the baby shower of one super important baby to be born in late March: our grandson, first baby from Alex and Courtnie! Can you imagine how nervous I was to get them done? We could not attend the party in the East Coast but were there in cookie spirit. I will divide this aventure in three posts that will be published every other day. All cookie shapes were chosen by Courtnie, according with the theme of the celebration: A Mexican Fiesta! We exchanged a few ideas and then she gave me the ok-dokie to do whatever I wanted as far as colors and details go. Today, you will see the first two designs, The Pregnant Avocado and The Taco.

.
THE PREGNANT AVOCADO

These were fun to make, and reasonably simple. I just used Americolor Electric Green to flood the avocado, leaving the center to be filled later with Americolor Skin color. Once that all set, food pens were used to draw the details of the eyes and mouth. Some got green eyes, some blue, and some brown. A very fine tip pen was used for the eyebrows.

THE TACO

I am very happy with these! It started on a bad note because I ordered a taco-shaped cookie cutter but it was too small. So I used a large circle and cut it slightly off-center to improvise the shape, and I think it worked quite well. I flooded the surface with Americolor Gold, let it set and very gently sprayed some of the same color highly diluted with vodka, with a brush, to create the splatter design. But what I loved even more was making the toppings. The tomato pieces were rolled fondant cut with a sharp Exacto knife, the meat just brown Royal icing in thick consistency. Lettuce was green icing applied with a leaf tip, and the shredded cheese store-bought Sprinkles in metallic gold.

Aren’t those super cute?

Stay tuned for two more designs coming up soon!
