Marlyn proposed a very cool and I must say a bit intimidating challenge for the month of October. Search your cupboard for inspiration, or go to a store like Marshall’s and find coffee mugs to get your creative juices flowing. We do have a nice collection of Mary Rose Young cups and I stepped up to the challenge… I had no idea I would love the outcome so much!

I was quite nervous about this challenge, as there was pretty much nothing to hold to, images and naked cookies. So I picked three of my favorite mugs and went to work. My favorite is the plaque cookie with the central fondant flower. I think the fondant mold I used was a very close image for the rose on the handle of the cup. The background I flooded with black and gold, and once that dried I added details with piping consistency gold, so they are a bit lifted.

My second favorite is the Mary Rose flower, which I opted to do wet on wet and then come with a black pen for the details.

I really loved the way they turned out….

Finally the little blue cat, I was tempted to use a projector but then decided to go really wild on this one and drew it just by hand. My cat is a little thinner, poor kitten. Needs more food….

I just loved this challenge, even though it made me a bit nervous at first. I think getting inspiration from things around the house, fabric designs, images, is a super cool way to get creative. Big thank you to Marlyn for the idea.
