MARLYN’S INSPIRATION FOR AUGUST: FROZEN TREATS

Another very simple set of instructions for this month’s challenge… Since it is so hot in so many places right now (including Kansas!) the theme comes at the perfect time. I went with a double feature, popsicles and snow cones.

The popsicles are super simple to make. I painted the stick with luster gold and vodka. Iced the base white, allowed that to set for a few minutes, added the top in yellow or orange. Sprinkles added while wet. Once that set, I piped the eyes and mouth.

The snow cones were slightly more involved, and you can definitely simplify and just ice the cone with Americolor gold or any other shade you prefer. Below you see the different steps.

Pipe the top with three different pastel tones, and swirl them slightly with a needle…

Immediately add sanding sugar to give the snow effect…

Pipe fine lines to make the pattern on the cones…

Now, dilute the same color until it is super thin, so you can apply it with a brush on the surface of the cone, after the lines set (it doesn’t take long at all, maybe 10 minutes).

Once that sets, you can use the same color in thick consistency to pipe the top border with a small star tip.

This was such a fun set to make, I am now ready for whatever Marlyn brings up for the month of September…. Is this year flying by or what?
