I start with a beautiful set designed and demonstrated in a tutorial from last year by the one and only Tunde Dugantsi (check her club membership with a click here, and be amazed!).

Tunde designed the cookie cutters and she sells them in a complete set or you can buy individual pieces (click here). I bought some and cut some by hand using the available image on her site. Or you can improvise with cutters you already own, of course. Some of the steps are shown below, just a matter of fine line piping, flooding and seeing their beauty come to life.

Of course, matching the nail polish to the cookie was a complete accident…. Obviously.

My sister Norma suggested that I honor the memory of our Mom, by using the colors of her favorite Samba School, MANGUEIRA. The colors are pink and green. My Mom never missed Mangueira entering the streets in Rio, even if it happened in the middle of the night, she would wake up to watch and cheer. So, I went to work, and it was like having her around the kitchen… I know she would love this set.

This was a real fun project, I am glad I made the second set, as I felt a lot more comfortable with the process.

Finally, the third design was inspired by Marlyn, from @montrealconfections. She is not creating new content anymore, but I like to bring back things she designed years ago. This one uses the candy corn shape, a favorite of mine…

Some of the steps shown below… Cookies are painted with a super thin layer of white icing, then a stencil is used to air-brush the pattern, one half at a time. Once that dried, I flooded with gold icing, then added the details with a bit of golden sanding sugar.

Super festive!

I hope you enjoyed this series of cookies, and if you happen to check Samba Schools parading the streets of Rio, send your best vibes to Mangueira…
