A little Winter decoration for macarons, made with Royal icing. The recipe for these babies has been on my main blog for a while, you can check it out here. I love using peppermint dust instead of extract because you never risk getting into “toothpaste territory” and also get a little texture in the filling. A win-win situation!

This was the first time baking macarons in our new oven (you can read all about it here, and also see what our three pups have been up to). I baked half with the convection feature at 280F , and half normal at 300F. All bakes were successful, no lopsided shells, nice feet… I was in heaven!

To color the shells I used Red Rose from SugarArt. The decoration was a bit time-consuming, I had Royal icing leftover from other projects and decided to do half white, half black snow flakes. But it was all worth it, I like the way they turned out…

*smile* I’ve looked and looked at each one – a different ‘look’ from each ‘pretty baby’ ! . . .

I must tell you I regretted badly my choice of decoration when I was just 4 cookies in……… fun times!

I just love the left central black one – it has definite ‘attitude’ 🙂 !
