A very special thank you to my niece Kalu, who gave me the idea for this cookie composition. I believe the cat was away because those mice are REALLY having the time of their lives!

I started with a very large round cookie that I cut in six equal wedges. Then I made a simple design with a food pen to mimic the holes.

I flooded all the areas (except the holes) with Royal icing dyed with yellow and a touch of orange.

Once that set, I piped the outline of little mice in several spots… Some diving into the cheese, some peeking out… The bodies were flooded with gray icing (I wish I had done them a little lighter, but it’s ok).

.

Now the cookie needs to fully set, so that the final detail is added: a little dusting with red luster powder around the edges of each hole, for a nice contrast and a more realistic look.

If I make them again, I will make the mice lighter, maybe make some brown, some light gray, a nice mixed population… But at any rate, it is a fun cookie set that could be nice for a little Summer party.
