It all started with a tutorial from Tunde Dugantsi, from 2023. Inspired by that vibe, I made some cookies of my own imagination. I simply adore cherry blossoms, maybe one day I can go to Japan and see the very best.

Cherry blossoms are delicate, elegant, and romantic. What’s not to like? Tunde captured their essence in a series of cookies that are not too complicated to make, starting with flooding, and piping the basic outlines of trees and branches.

The cherry blossoms are made with a drop flower method, using a tip like #129. I made way too many and now I find myself adding them to all sorts of cookies, which…. come to think of it, is not that bad, is it?

I find the candle design extremely clever! Something to make the set of cookies a little more unique.

It is important to take the pink tone away from the “bubblegum” vibe, so I like to use Dusty Rose as my starting point. If you do not have that in your arsenal of dyes, add a VERY small amount of brown to a regular pink and that should be fine.

Piping a cherry blossom with thick consistency icing is a nice technique to have under your belt.

The fan was my own design, as well as some turquoise cookies that profited from the excessive amount of cherry blossoms I made as Royal icing transfers…

I did not realize you had not been to Japan – you of all people I know would love it! Perhaps now the lab will be part of yesterday you’ll find the time. Problem is the country has become SO popular it has become terribly touristy especially in the short 3-week cherry blossom season. I love the look of your big cherry blossom cookies and the fans look beautifully pink and dainty. A huge smile from me as usual. And, as far as Japan goes > were it possible, I would have been living in Kyoto for the last two decades 🙂 !
