I’ve said it before but will repeat it again: I absolutely love designing a cookie with someone in mind. This large cookie (a little over 5 inches in length) was part of a box sent to dear friends of ours who live in a beautiful home in Michigan. They have a barn decorated with a gorgeous wooden quilt. I fell in love with it the first time I visited many years ago. So here is my “cookiefied” version of it.

I used several techniques to decorate it, starting with making the wood component of the door. Thick Royal icing is brushed, allowed to set for 15 minutes or so, then a scribe tool is used to create the divisions between panels. I also very lightly scratched the perimeter of the gates.

A small square cookie was baked separately and fine lines piped for the quilt design…

After that, it was all a matter of piping the details, using different consistencies and colors of icing…

A little snowman and a Christmas tree helped with the festive mood of the holiday season…

I should also give a lot of credit to Amber, since back in the Summer I followed her tutorial to make a typical Kansas barn, with sunflowers all around it. Some of the components of this previews design were used for my Christmas adventure, so thank you, Amber!

Sally darling – I can see no way your friends are going to eat this cookie . . . methinks it is so beautiful and full of meaning of your caring and willingness to spend time to make something special . . . methinks it will honestly in some way be ‘framed’ and kept . . . God bless !
