Have you worked with marzipan to decorate your cookies? It is a nice and tasty alternative to Royal icing, so consider it as an option. These cookies were all part of a tutorial from Tunde Dugantsi shared last year. It took me way too long to make them, but better late than never… You can join her club to gain access to all her tutorials clicking here.

In this wonderful tutorial, Tunde explores the many ways you can use marzipan. One of my favorite cookies in the set was the framed oval.

You will need silicone molds and dyed marzipan. Make flowers, leaves, and the frame. Glue them to the cookie with a mixture of corn syrup and water, or any other way you prefer (egg whites work also, as Tunde pointed out in her video).

The other cookies were made rolling marzipan and adding details. The 10 petal flower required small cookie cutters.

That is then glued to the cookie, small dots of Royal icing to add some more flair, and of course, I had to end up painting it with luster powder and vodka for the bling.

The last two methods of decorating required a patterned rolling pin (the trickiest for me), or rolling the marzipan over a mat designed for Sugarveil work. I loved the way they turned out!

You can conceivably leave the marzipan in its natural color…

But I cannot help it, as you well know…

I will definitely use marzipan in the future, so a huge thank you to Tunde for teaching me these new tricks.
