THE AUTUMN LEAVES

A little cookie tribute to a beautiful season. I never get tired of seeing the leaves turn color, even if it means cooler days, and even cooler nights.
Nature following its course.

DESIGN #1
MODERN GOLD

One of my favorite shapes of leaves because you can do so much with it. For this particular design, you need the Royal icing to have some volume and it will often crater because it is such a small area to flood. Recently I learned this method of making small holes on the icing before adding the second layer, and it worked like a charm, I had no cratering!

A fun basic design to play with…

DESIGN #2
LEAVES AND SWIRLS

This design relies on Royal icing transfers. I made maple leaf shaped transfers, used the air-brush to add color, and a little detail with a fine tip black pen. The method is the same I used previously and explained in a recent post (click here).

DESIGN #3
BICOLOR MODERN

Inspired by a drawing I saw on Pinterest, I cut the shape by hand, as I did not have a cookie cutter large enough to match my goals. Everything is pretty straightforward, pipe the base in two colors, wait for that to set and add all details. Veins are later painted with gold luster powder + vodka.

I envision other color combinations for this basic motif, like shades of brown, green, red, even pink…

DESIGN #4
HANIELA’S MAPLE LEAVES

Haniela demonstrated a similar design in her Patreon group, I made a simplified version, but it is the most involved cookie in today’s adventure. You can see her youtube video here. Start by marbling the base in two colors using a palette knife. I used gold and white. Once that sets I used a stencil to add a flower off-center, and then piped the branches with light green. I absolutely love this design and made a couple of variations from it.

I don’t know how she comes up with such creative new designs all the time, but I definitely profit from her talent!

DESIGN #5
FRAMED LEAVES

Definitely the simpler, all you need is to have Royal icing transfers made, or you can also do fondant pieces. Any frame shape will work, you can also play with different background colors. My inspiration was once more Haniela, see her post about it here.

That is all for now, my friends! We are moving into winter and soon autumn leaves will be a thing of the past. Time waits for no one. Enjoy each day, each cookie, each small adventure…
