The Year of the Dragon!
I am celebrating it with a wonderful cookie composition designed and taught by Haniela, and I confess to be absolutely in love with it! I will not lie to you, this is a labor-intensive project, and requires quite a bit of fine line piping but Haniela explains it all in great detail. Check her full tutorial here. I believe the secret is not to rush. Give yourself enough time particularly to make all the components of the head. Also, make all the flowers and the little horns the day before so they are fully set and ready to go.
I fell in love with this set the moment Haniela demonstrated it on her Facebook live. I changed just a few things, making the cookies join together by “frankensteining” them. She provided the template for the head, so you can cut the cookie by hand and draw the different regions to be piped using a stencil. So many details!
Below I show some of the steps to make this majestic creature in cookie shape.
The little legs are made using bell-shaped cookie cutters, and the tail a little teardrop shape. The body sections are simple round cutters. Fine lines complete the design, and of course all the little Royal icing transfers make it truly special. I am particularly fond of the choice of blue for some of the accent details, because it really pops up on the red background. Haniela really outdid herself with this set…
