May I offer you a poison apple? Would you take a bite? I think you should, because this is a very special kind of poison that makes you happy and fond of colors. Bright colors. It also makes you smile. A lot. So….. here, have the apples…. Share with friends!
These are very simply to decorate, but they do end up with a little extra layer of Royal icing. Start by flooding them with red, and allow that to fully set. Once that is done, pipe Electric Green icing to form a scary face, add black leaves with piping consistency icing, and finally, if desired, brush a little luster powder (copper for face, silver for leaves), just to give them a bit more pizzazz.
I am pretty happy with those, and I hope they made some kids very happy too…
And now let’s march into the real scary stuff… When I was a child I avoided watching horror movies because I would not sleep well for weeks. Lucky me for growing up in Brazil at a time when Halloween was not a thing… these cookies would have terrified me!
The idea for these came from Haniela’s blog (check the article here). I changed the style of decorating a little bit, and added texture to the icing using a fondant ball tool. Start by icing the edge with black and immediately adding eyes (store-bought, in this case).
Flood the rest of the coffin with orange, and after about 20 minutes you can go with the fondant tool (or the handle of a brush) and make indentations all over. Finally, white icing in piping consistency and a super fine hole in the piping bag, makes the little bones.
