I could not WAIT to try this little project from a recent Patreon video from Hani (click here for her site). Recently she did a poll with her followers to find out what they wanted to learn and one popular choice was expanding the use of cookie cutters to make different designs. With this video, she uses the Easter egg shape and makes sloths and Monstera leaves, that go super well together. Aren’t they adorable?

This is part of a paid class – you need to be a supporter of her Patreon page to watch it – so it would not be right to share all the information to make the cookies. It is truly a very detail-oriented project, and you will use Royal icing coupled with a stencil as a starting point (I cut mine with Cricut, Hani demonstrates how to do it by hand with a blade). By joining her site you’ll have access to all templates needed to make these and other cookies. Very worth it! Below I show some of the steps.

The most fun part is the addition of texture to the body and arms. I did not hit it perfectly like Hani, I think you need to have perfect consistency of the icing and do the scratching with the needle at the exact level of setting. For Haniela that was around 5 minutes after dabbing the surface, but for me it was a bit off. Still I am thrilled with my sloth babies!

These are a little involved and time consuming because quite a few steps are involved. Haniela suggests coupling them with simpler cookies like the Monstera leaf, using the same cutter. I also ended up making a couple of additional cookies that I felt went together with them for a jungle kind of theme…

Next time I think I will add a fondant flower on the top of the head of two of them so we have two happy sloth couples enjoying life in the forest…
Hani, thank you for yet another great tutorial!
