FOR THE LOVE OF RED

Red is such a beautiful, intense color. It is the focus today on three designs: poppies, strawberries and cherries.

.

Hani demonstrated how to pipe beautiful poppies, using three different icing tips plus super fine black lines to add more pizazz (you can watch her tutorial for free clicking here). I made a cookie composition using some as transfers and some simpler, piped on the iced cookie. Petal tip 101.

.

I used leftover red icing to make a couple of designs on my own. I flooded the background with Mint green, let it set and brushed bronze luster to form a kind of checkerboard pattern. Then the little fruits were piped on top, and finally the greenery. Once the strawberries were almost crusted I used a needle to add texture.

The fruits would also work made as Royal icing transfers, but this time I decided to just pipe on the cookie, hoping for the best…

I wish I was there to give you a warm hug . . . and, with a big smile, ask for one of these beautiful cookies . . . perchance a poppy ?
