I am so smitten with these cookies! I got the idea from Instagram, but modified it to use a fondant mold for the bear. I molded the pillow by hand, and made the details on the sides with a toothpick. You could conceivably mold everything by hand if you are artistic enough, or pipe the bear with Royal icing and do it as a transfer. Same for the pillow.

First, you need to bake a rectangular cookie large enough to accommodate the little bear and the “bed sheet” around it.

Next, make the pillow in a size proportional to the bear’s head.

Once you are satisfied with the pieces, paint them in the colors of your choice. Of course, I had to use a little copper luster for bling.

Allow the paint to fully dry, and then place the pieces over a very light coating of Royal icing (quite diluted and applied with a brush). I did not want to have a thick layer of icing as more would be added later.

At this point, I noticed that the feet of the bear would be sticking too far up, so I carefully cut them a bit with small scissors. Poor bears, the sacrifices they have to make in the name of a cookie! Now, it was time to add the bed sheet. I used a slightly thicker than flooding consistency to make sure everything was nicely covered.

Initialy, I tried to go for polka dots made by wet-on-wet method, but because the surface is full of ups and downs the dots got distorted. Full disclosure: that is how the marbled look was born!

Once it all set, I added some dots on the top of the sheet, and wished the bear a wonderful sleep…

I want to re-visit this design, trying to decorate the sheet in a different way. It is not feasible to use air-brushing since a stencil cannot lay flat. But maybe adding little dots to form flowers after the layer is set could be cute. Stay tuned, or if you try to make it, let me know your ideas!
