I have learned a lot from Marlyn, and often browse through her tutorials on Patreon to search for new cookie adventures. The same set of cookie cutters were used in the past to make her Chinese New Year celebrating the tiger (click here for a flashback). It was a real marathon in decorating, but still stands as one of my favorite projects of all time. By comparison, this snowflake platter is much simpler. But I am totally in love with it!

First things first, this is the set of cutters I used, available at Semisweet Designs. Marlyn’s tutorial is available on youtube (click here).
Below some stages of the process. First, bake the cookies, using a recipe that won’t spread very much, so that it will all fit better.

.
To ice the cookies, I used very light blue and pink, then marbled the colors using a spatula. That is a method I recently learned from Haniela, and I find that it gives a super nice transition of colors, better than a needle.

Ice all the components using this basic color combination…

Marlyn provided files to cut stencils for the icing step for the members of her Patreon group, so that’s what I used to draw the images on each cookie. For the central round, I used a stencil I had. Instead of air-brushing, I simply used a metallic pen, hoping to get a bit of a shadow around the white icing, as suggested by Marlyn.

Once that is done, the fun begins, using off-0white Royal icing. It was white with a tiny tiny tiny bit of pink.

It was a very Zen adventure, particularly piping the bead borders, that I wasn’t sure if it was going to work, but decided why not? 😉

I hope you liked this celebration of winter, even if it’s not quite here yet… Huge thank you to Marlyn, for yet another great tutorial…
