WELCOME TO AUTUMN!

I cannot lie to you, this was a real marathon in cookie decorating, following a tutorial by the one and only Tunde Dugantsi. To join her cookie club and have access to all her videos, click here.

This is a very large cookie, you can cut the shape by hand or buy the cutter at etsy. Once you bake it, the fun begins… Draw the basic image with a food safe pen, and pipe away. The real challenge was the basket, I did the best I could, but it was not trivial. It is a large area to do such intricate piping, so alternatively you could ice the whole area and then use a stencil and air-brushing to give it a basket look. But truth is, the piping make it special, and it is a very good opportunity to practice the technique… Plus, the stencil would not curve according to the overall shape, it would look a little odd, I think. Anyway, I am glad I faced the task at hand.

I used Americolor Cork color for the Royal icing and then painted the basket component with luster powder copper + vodka. The fruits and corn husks are all piped in stages so that each section retains its shape and does not join with the others next to it. It is a work of patience but totally worth it. As Tunde pointed out, as you are piping it won’t look as if it might have a happy ending, but it all changes once you bring colors to play. Next day, once the icing was fully set, I painted the scene with Sugarprism, and it was a lot of fun… I just love how the product behaves, you can add one color on top of another, they blend well, so you can create a lot of dimension and detail. Even if you are not a Van Gogh!

Tunde, thank you once again for helping me push the limits of my decorating abilities
a little further!
