The monthly series Celebrations took a little break due to personal issues in Amy’s life. I am glad she is back into the swing of cookie decorating, and hope things will be brighter and brighter as time goes by. This series of cookies focused on making a background resembling wood, and then piping flowers in Royal icing to decorate them. For me it was love at first sight, and I could not wait to make them!

Aren’t those cookies elegant and adorable? And the look of wood is incredibly realistic in the three different techniques she taught. As usual, I don’t feel it is right to share details from a paid class, so my description will be kept to a minimum.

One of the designs relies on flooding with a bicolor icing, the other spreading super thick icing and then finalizing with a needle and luster powder. The third method was the one I had more issues with, because it requires the consistency to be perfect: thick but not too thick. It is the one used in the cookie below. It ended up working nicely, but let’s say there was some hyperventilating on my part…

These would go well in so many occasions! Weddings, Mother’s Day, Birthdays, and of course you can change the type and color of flower for different looks. I piped the roses as Royal icing transfers and then added the leaves on the cookie after placing the rose on it.

Thank you Sally. I’ve missed all of you and and making my way back. Using my downtime wisely and binge watching classes, YouTube, Food Network for fun and improving all our behind the scenes tech so we can take off once a few more things are settled! Loved your cookies and the beautiful write-up! Look for another month to post soon… cookies baked…trying to catch a day with lower humidity to decorate. These storms are rough and early this year!

The techniques are so effective – and look like what they’re meant to, very cool!
