For the Love of Cookies

I went into a frenzy of scary bakes this past weekend, knowing my favorite season would be over… Most of today’s cookies were inspired by Nadiia, one of the greatest cookie artists out there, born in Ukraine, living in San Diego. I call this series a celebration of black… and it starts with some prep work making fondant pieces in several different shapes (put your molds to work!)

Once you have that ready, you can start adding them to your cookies. I went with a mixture of techniques, air-brushing with stencil, air-brushing free hand, and some painting. Border piping is a nice final touch, but not mandatory, of course. I like to practice the technique at every chance I get.

Nadiia came up with many interesting designs for an elegant take on the Halloween theme, but I had to use a stencil to mimic some of them, I just don’t have her skill with a paint brush. She is amazing.

Maybe my favorite of this set….

Using black fondant is a very cool idea, I brushed some of the pieces with silver or gold to highlight a little more the design.

I hope you will have many kids knocking at your door, perhaps a great costume party to attend, and if you are a baker, you managed to do all the things that called your name… I admit that I did not quite make it there this year, but I had a lot of fun trying!
